David Jay, the fashion photographer who also does social awareness work, was recently interviewed about the SCAR Project.
He describes how he became involved because of the diagnosis of a friend with breast cancer and articulates how he reveals the deeper beauty of the people he photographs by blending the tools of fashion photography with an unflinching look at what cancer does to bodies.
